Dear Families & Community Members,

Things are busier than ever as we finish this school year and look toward graduation!

The district is beginning to prepare for next school year and closely monitoring student enrollment numbers and hiring for any potential openings.

I would like to thank Wendy Graveley, Kim Gilligan, and Allen Sevareid for their dedication to the school district. They will retire at the end of this school year, and we wish them the best on their next adventures!

We are excited to welcome new staff members as we have started filling teaching positions in the elementary school.

Pre-K Early Literacy Program
Townsend School District is implementing the legislation passed during the last session, establishing options for an Early Literacy Program. With the new legislation in HB 352, districts can hold a Pre-K Early Literacy Program, and students must qualify by taking an assessment. The screening to see which four and 5-year-olds are eligible for the program will take place May 9th. The district looks forward to offering a high-quality early literacy program for eligible students next year! Please contact Mrs. Hartmann for more information and visit the school website for the details she and the kindergarten team created for parents.

Middle School Holocaust Remembrance Night
Holocaust Remembrance Night is May 20th in the Community Room. It is an incredible night to see middle school students work on a powerful and important topic for 8th graders.

Drivers Education
Townsend School District is looking forward to offering driver’s education this summer and next school year. Details will be released soon as we are recruiting an educator to fill this position!

High School Opportunities
As recipients of the Advanced Opportunities Grant, Broadwater High School looks forward to expanding options for students to earn college credit in various ways while enrolled and to gain experience that leads to certifications and experience on the job and in many career and technical pathways.  So far this year, the college credit opportunities at the high school that are being provided have saved approximately $100,000 for families.  With the grant and expansion of the program, there will be even more options for students at a significantly reduced cost!  We will continue to provide you with information, and Mr. Schnittgen and the high school team look forward to working with your family on pathways for your students.

Sincerely,

Susie Hedalen, Superintendent of Townsend School District
