Be a Drip! Reap the Benefits of Drip Irrigation in Your Garden and Yard

Join us to learn how to plan and install a drip irrigation system for your vegetables, flowers, shrubs and trees that helps conserve water but most importantly effectively waters your plants through the driest Montana summer. Imagine leaving for a week’s vacation and coming back to a well-hydrated garden!

This class will focus on the basic components and operation of an above-ground drip irrigation system and how to build your own easy-to-use, flexible, and efficient system from parts available at local retailers. You’ll learn how to plan the initial system and expand it as you develop new beds and as plants grow, and how to easily maintain your set-up for years of worry-free watering.

The instructor, Rhonda Simmons, is a Montana Master Gardener and a passionate drip irrigator who in the last 8 years has landscaped a 5-acre portion of 24 acres of arid high mountain desert property solely with drip irrigation. She drip irrigates 250+ individual evergreen, ornamental and fruiting trees and shrubs, a native plant hill, a 7500 square foot vegetable garden and small-scale cut flower farm.

Planting and Maintaining Trees and Shrubs

Who doesn’t love beautiful and healthy trees that provide shade, privacy, erosion control and bird habitat? But it can be challenging to select and care for trees and shrubs that will thrive in our environment!

Ready to help you meet that challenge is Patrick “Right Plant Right Place” Plantenberg who is well-known in our community and throughout Montana for his extensive real-life knowledge and passion for sharing it. Pat has worked on trees for over 50 years and is the long-time leader of the Townsend Tree Board and current president of the Montana Native Plant Society.

In this 3-part class you’ll learn hands-on about the best choices for our area and proper planting, watering, fertilizing and pruning techniques.
