Dear Families, 11/10/21
We have been busy with fall activities and events at the school! Congratulations to the athletes on all of their outstanding accomplishments! I enjoyed the football game this weekend and our coaches and team's incredible talent and sportsmanship. We are looking forward to cheering on our Lady Bulldogs at State Volleyball this week.
This week, we had a productive board meeting and hired multiple personnel! Please welcome on board:
Substitutes- Andrea Tullos, Joel Brown, Tyler Patrick
Junior High Girls Basketball- 7th Grade Chase Ragen, 8th Grade Courtney Johnson
C Squad Boys Basketball Coach- David Lawson
Paraprofessional- Richard Naber
Health Coordinator- Katherine Humphrey
Curriculum Director and Learning Loss Interventionist- Miscese Gagen
Activity Bus Driver- Donald Crossler
We would also like to thank Polly Robertson for her many years of service in the Elementary Office!
Covid-19 cases have continued to decrease at the school, and families staying home when they are sick has been very helpful. We are looking forward to Kate, our new health coordinator, taking the lead on our COVID School ELC Grant and mental health services and other health-related issues at the school.
Miscese will work with students on interventions in reading and math and work with our district on our curriculum. Our current priority is to get a new English Language Arts Program K-5, and she will help Mrs. Hartmann and her team get this process moving! This week third-grade teachers will be able to watch a third-grade class from Absarokee teach one of the programs that is under consideration. We will keep families informed and new curriculum adoptions will always go through an approval process with the Townsend School Board. Miscese will also take inventory of all of our current programs K-12 so that we can note priorities and create a curriculum update/adoption schedule that aligns with available funding.
One of the challenges we addressed at the board meeting was ensuring we met the state-required minutes for instructional time; with input from administration and staff, the board voted to change the bell schedule rather than adjust the calendar. The bell will ring at 3:32 Mon.-Th. and 2:31 on Fridays K-12 starting next week.
We are excited about our partnership with STOKE and the Lodge, which allows us to offer 60 students in grades 3-8 the opportunity to participate in a STEAM activity with SNAPOLOGY. SNAPOLOGY is an engineering program that uses Legos and offers our students an enrichment opportunity outside of school days.
We are working to support all families in need and remove barriers at the school. Please reach out to our coordinators if you have students or families we can support:
Mrs. Bleile has been appointed as the Military Family Liaison
Mrs. Howells is the Homeless Family Point of Contact
Mrs. Hedalen is the Foster Care Point of Contact
Thank you for participating in Parent-Teacher Conferences this week!
The construction progress is incredible, and we look forward to having high school students get involved in the project. We will also set up some community tours soon!
Please reach out to set up a meeting or call me with any questions, concerns, or input!
