Freshman Language Arts
English I students will cover a range of language arts skills.  Class topics will include literature, grammar, public speaking, informational text and composition.  Evaluation will be based on tests, compositions, and projects.  

Students will also be responsible for reading a book of their choice each semester and will be expected to produce an assigned project related to this book.  

We will read the following novels:
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Night by Elie Wiesel
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
The Giver by Lois Lawry

We will also read and study poetry and non-fiction text, and students will research and write an 8-10 page research paper.
