What is Close Up?
MISSION OF CLOSE UP
Close Up informs, inspires, and empowers young people toexercise the rights and accept the responsibilities of citizens in ademocracy.
THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME!
Since 1971, Close Up has provided educational programs in Washington that help students learn how they, as ordinary citizens, can play key roles in the U.S. system of democracy.
Close Up is known for being fun and for positively impacting student attitudes.
Over 800,000 alums attest, it’s the educational experience of a lifetime.
We have sent over 150 students from Broadwater High School to Close Up since beginning the program in 1996.
We give you an inside view of the people, processes and places in our nation’s capital.
You will also experience the stunning vistas of DC’s monuments – using unique methodology that enables you to connect history to the roles you will play in our democracy today.
In short, we use Washington as a living classroom to give you insights that far transcend the typical travel experience.
Our Capitol Hill day will have the Close Up staff schedule all meetings with our Senators and Representative and/or their staffs for us.
NEW YORK CITY
After experiencing all that DC has to offer on Close Up’s flagship Washington High School Program, students and teachers will spend an additional two days in New York City.
This incredible trip includes unforgettable study visits to famous historical sites such as the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the United Nations, Ground Zero, and Wall Street – where students will discuss the changing relationship between business and government.
Other highlights include seeing a Broadway show, visiting “Top of the Rock” at Rockefeller Center, dining in Little Italy, and exploring landmarks such as Times Square and Central Park!
Your students will return home with memories, photos, and friends that will last a lifetime!
